All Star Game Parade

This morning I really wanted to take the girls to the All Star Game parade on the Plaza. But it started at 1:00, right during Edee's nap. And we have plans this evening which require Mallory to be up late. So I was hoping she would take a nap too. My wonderful parents offered to watch the girls so I could go. Too bad I didn't want to go by myself. My mom knew my aunt wanted to go too and she didn't want to go by herself. SO....I had someone to go with! Yeah! Then my brother ended up tagging along. Even better. We had a baseball person there who knew all the players and their stories. Awesome!

We arrived at noon, thinking we would be late for a good spot. Nope. We parked in a parking garage and got a spot in the shade to wait. The mascots started interacting with the crowd before the parade started.  I got a couple fun pictures.  Too bad my Slugger picture didn't turn out.  But he was king of the place today.  And he knew it.

George Brett was the grand marshal.

If anyone watched the Home Run Derby last night, they know that the fans really booed Robinson Cano.  He won the Home Run Derby last year and got to select this year's American League representatives.  The KC fans wanted him to pick Billy Bulter and he didn't.  He even promised to select a hometown player for the team.  So he was booed last night.  That continued today at the parade.  There was talk that he wasn't even going to show up.  Who could blame him though?  But he did.  Too bad he has one of the most popular, recognizable players in baseball as a teammate.....Derek Jeter.  So they rode in the same truck.  In this picture, Cano is on the other side.  But it didn't matter that Jeter was in the truck with him, they were still booed.

The K.C. fans wanted one of their guys in the competition, and -- as the AL's captain -- Cano failed to grant their wish. In other words, he put coal in their stockings and ended up receiving the Philadelphia St. Nick treatment.

I took this picture for my hubbie, the Cardinal's fan.  It's Tony La Russa for those of you unfamiliar with him.  The managers of the World Series teams from the prior year get to manage the next year's All Star Game.

It was a fun afternoon.  I'm glad I got to do something related to the All Star Game, since KC has never hosted one in my lifetime.  Thanks again to Nana and Papa for taking care of the girls & getting Mallory to nap!  Yeah!  That will make our plans tonight even better.
